The Montevideo Fantastic Film Festival is the only event in Uruguay specialized in horror, sci-fi, fantastic and bizarre films. Its objective is to divulge once a year independent and generally low budget productions that are frequently considered as part of a "minor genre" and who almost never have access to commercial and even cultural circuits.
The Festival was born in 2005 with the mission of finding a space for local and international works that usually didn´t have the opportunity of being known in their own country festivals. In later editions the repercussions in media and public increased, together with the days of exhibition and extending thematically the programming.
The Montevideo Fantastic Film Festival has been declared of Cultural Interest by the Ministry of Education and Culture and of Municipal Interest by the Municipal Intendency of Montevideo
